Karst caves of Crimea

Crimea is a classical karst area (karst is a process of rock dissolution by natural waters). That's why caving is really popular there. There are hundreds of caves already discovered and hundreds still hidden underground.

There are numbers of caves which are equipped for mass excursions protecting tourists from caves' perfidy and defending caves on people's vandalism. The most popular are Mramornaya (Marble) and Emine Bair Khosar which are on Chatyrdag plateau. They are included by independent experts in five of the best caves in the world.
Moreover they have paleontologic valuea also. Bones of Mammoth, Cave Bear and others were found there. Now there's a paleontologic museum right inside one of the caves.

Another famous Crimean cave is Krasnaya (Red). It's located in picturesque gorge where a cave river flows.

Krasnaya cave is a multilevel labyrinth which total length of explored passages is over 20 km. Underground river has got wonderful lakes, cascades and waterfalls on its way that makes the cave unique.

It's also found that that area was used by ancient man for cult ceremonies.
